We really come to this mobile slot game with an open mind. Play’n GO slot releases prior to Space Race was Energoonz, which was odd but unique. Play’n GO were clearly trying new things with their mobile slot range – something we applaud them for.
So it was a shame when we opened up Space Race to find a very average mobile slot. The great feature of this slot game are the graphics during the two bonus features. When the free spins come and the meteorites fly down the reels, burning away the symbols and replacing them with new symbols, there is something very thrilling about watching the bonus round play out.
The moon landing feature is equally as beautiful, with a simple click me game that resembles Battleship in space. You tell the game where to place your rocket, and then cross your fingers that it is not one of the squares hit by the meteorites. All meanwhile, with a beautiful starry sky background and a looming moon in the horizon, just waiting to be discovered.
But alas, much like the NASA space program, you’ll pump lots of money into it, getting not much more for your investments than a sense of awe and wonder when those bonus features hit. Because with a return to player rate of 94.23% we struggled to win anything larger than 20x our bet. After a while, and once you find the bonus features don’t hit as often as you like, we had a sudden urge to step outside and look out at the night sky. Not because this slot inspired us to, but because we suspected that we would pass a far more fulfilling evening doing that than playing Space Race.
In its defence, this little game was tested on every device and was not found wanting – whether you want to play this as a Windows slot, an Android slot or an iPhone slot, Space Race will switch on and get you to the moon and back. But it will cost you.
In our opinion you are better off checking out other Play’n GO games which also work flawlessly on the devices above, particularly Enchanted Meadow and the Wild Blood slot. Two of our favourites.
