The release of new NetEnt games is always exciting, especially as their last release the Jumanji slot was truly excellent.
And there’s been a serious lack of Summer themed slot machines out this year.
NetEnt seems to be trying to rectify this, with Play’n GO’s Sizzling Spins slot maybe giving them a run for their money.
So they’ve brought out a video to give you a little taste of the Summer fruit machine fun you’ve got to look forward to, and it bears a striking similarity to your all-time favourite NetEnt slot game.
Everything you need to know about Berryburst slot
First, you better have a look at the video, it’s only 2 minutes long but you get the general idea from just 30 seconds, we promise you that.
Even if you don’t look at anything other than the logo, it won’t take a huge leap of the imagination to see the similarities between the slot themes.

So is this just a cheap ripoff of the Starburst slot game? Is NetEntertainment really trying to coast off the brand of their most famous game?
Yeah, this feels a little like NetEntertainment selling out; but don’t jump on that bandwagon just yet.
Because they wouldn’t be using their biggest brand and making a mockery of it, that we are… almost sure of?
The theme is pretty, with dazzling lights but fruity symbols
You get the same orange, purples and pinks as the original game, with that sparkling effect that made Starburst so dazzling.
The big difference, of course, is the fact that you get fruit symbols instead of gems. These are clearly the high paying symbols, whilst the high card symbols will no doubt be the low paying symbols.
There’s not much more to say about the theme, to be honest. It’s simple, it’s bright, it’s colourful.
You still get the expanding wilds and the respins
There’s no point using the love of the old game and changing everything.
After all, when the Mega Fortune Dreams slot came out, it kept the wheel of fortune jackpot game but changed the paylines and the wild set up.
So this Berryburst game hopes to do the same.
NetEnt knows that what made Starburst so wonderful to play was all those wonderful wilds showing up, expanding to cover the reel, and giving you re-spins.
And so Berryburst kept that one great feature which gives us hope.
But wait, what so different with this NetEnt slot then?
So far, similar theme, same feature… this isn’t looking good for the “NetEnt don’t make cheap copies” theory.

However, if you look at the video closely you’ll notice a couple of big differences.
For one the symbols don’t just pay left to right and right to left, but they pay when they are on adjacent reels.
So a symbol on a payline on reel 2, 3 and 4 will give you a 3 symbol win. That already gives you more potential wins and easier wins than in Starburst.
What is the maximum you can win on Berryburst?
That’s the second big difference that we can decipher from the video.
If you made it all the way to the end of the video, you would have seen what happened when you get 5 expanded wilds all covering all 5 reels.
Which is no doubt the biggest win you can get in a single spin, and that win is 1,106 times your bet. Twice as high as that of Starburst.
Now if that doesn’t grab your attention, we don’t know what will.
Is this Berryburst mobile slot going to be any good?
That’s the main question, isn’t it? And we have until the 23rd of August 2018 to find out.
Our instincts tell us that this could be good. They haven’t changed that much from the original, instead, they seem to have simply… tweaked the original recipe to give it a little extra sweetness.
That said, there are some warning signs that could make us turn our opinion around.
This isn’t the first time NetEnt have tried to upgrade a game
Sure, it worked for Mega Fortune Dreams, which is now one of NetEnt’s most popular jackpot slots – probably more popular than the original Mega Fortune game.
But you know when it didn’t quite work? With the Twin Spin Deluxe slot game.
Sure, it’s a good game – we didn’t even really mind it. But it wasn’t anywhere close as good as the original Twin Spin game.
By adding 6 reels and all ways cluster pays, you took a lot of the volatile fun out of the original.
Do bigger wins mean a higher volatility?
What is slot variance or volatility? It’s basically the risk level of a slot machine.

The higher the volatility, the riskier the slot, and the bigger the wins. A low variance game, on the other hand, doesn’t have huge winning potential but pays out little more often.
Starburst is a low variance game, it’s easy to play, quick win game, with lots of action, and one of the reasons it’s so beloved.
Berryburst, just by the fact that you can win more, seems to imply that it has a slightly higher variance. So will we get the same Twin Spin Deluxe problem?
Don’t underestimate the power of NetEnt
The thing is, overall, Net Entertainment brings out more star-studded games than duds.
So, as a gambling person, we like to make the easy odd bet: this is going to be good. Maybe not ‘iconic and forever remembered’ good, but certainly worthy of trying it come the 23rd of August.
Till then, there’s always the original Starburst to remind you why NetEnt are one of the best around.
And let’s not forget, Jumanji is almost definitely worthy of taking a couple of spins, whilst their recent Lost Relic grid slot has some very interesting mechanics.
