The Phantom of the Opera online slot feels like it’s been cursed from the beginning.
We announced that Microgaming had the rights to the movie of the same name back in February.
Then, out of the blue NetEntertainment studios announced they will be doing a slot of the same name on July 24th 2017.
But, this tale took an unlikely twist when NetEnt pulled their upcoming slot within days of release. We then had no date for the Microgaming game, no NetEnt Phantom of the Opera, nothing.
That, however, has now finally changed.
The Phantom of the Opera slot is coming November 2017
This is, of course, the Microgaming slot game version promised earlier this year. Here’s a quick Phantom of the Opera video game preview:
Now this is purely for fans of two things:
- The original Phantom of the Opera Film with Gerald Butler singing. Yes, singing.
- Fans of the Andrew Lloyd Webber theatre musical of the same name.
Casumo Casino has these and more with over 1,000 games to play online
Now, we’re not going to jump to conclusions, but if you’re reading this, we’re going to say you are probably more fans of number 2 rather than 1.
That’s because only fans of the original films were those who couldn’t get to the theatre and watch the broadway musical in the first place.
Why is there so much Phantom of the Opera interest?
Honestly? We have absolutely no idea. And we fall into the number 2 fan category.
Granted, we’ve only seen the play once, but we liked it. There’s something wonderfully dramatic and operatic about the whole story.
But did you know, before the theatre, there was a film by Universal film studios? Technically, the Phantom of the Opera is part of the ‘Universal Monsters‘ collection; ie. all the classics like Frankenstein and Dracula.
Enter NetEntertainment, stage left
Did NetEnt read about the Phantom of the Opera slot by Microgaming back in February and thought… we can totally do one before they do.
Maybe. We don’t know. Maybe it’s a total coincidence that we were going to get two Phantom of the Opera slots in one year.
What isn’t coincidental is that NetEnt have the rights to all the Universal Monsters.
Hence why to this day we have the likes of the Invisible Man slot and the Creature from the Black Lagoon (at online casinos only).
The clash of the titans left one big loser
Technically, according to the official line, the people who own the copyright to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theatre piece (and who gave Microgaming the rights to the Phantom of the Opera mobile slot), complained to Universal.

Universal then pulled the plug on NetEnt’s launch, stating that they would have to settle the dispute before NetEnt could release their version of the game.
Which is a shame, as in terms of theme, NetEnt’s Phantom of the Opera slot looks much prettier.
But then, NetEnt didn’t have Gerald Butler singing soprano.
Is the Microgaming Phantom of the Opera slot good?
Until it’s released in the first week of November 2017, there is no real way of knowing whether we will get a decent video slot.
However, if Microgaming can be trusted with one thing is big brand games.
Just look at their recently released Halloween slot game based on the movie by the same name. It’s a little bonkers, but brilliant none the less.
The theme is a little dated
This is a movie that came out in 2006, and whilst it shouldn’t feel dated, what with it being based in turn of the century France, it kind of does.
Raoul, the main love interest, looks creepy as hell. Creepier than the actual Phantom.
But then the Phantom is Gerald Butler. It’s crazy to think that that little mask would stop anyone but the most vapid of Kim Kardashians from dropping their panties to the floor.
What makes this Microgaming phone slot so quickly appealing, however, is the music, which draws you into a world full of Operatic charm.
200% for the UK, 100% for Europe, there’s more waiting at Vera & John.
Statistic of the Phantom of the Opera slot:
If you weren’t able to watch the video then here’s a quick recap of what you can expect when the Phantom of the Opera slot is released in the first week of November:

- Win 116,000 in cash on max bet
- Letter bonus gives you instant cash win
- Chandelier bonus turns reels wild
- Pick from 3 Bonus features:

Are we that excited about this version of the slot game?
NetEnt’s game certainly looked prettier, but you know what? The Microgaming Phantom of the Opera slot machine looks more interesting.
The features are very interesting, and the fact that the top win is 7,733 times your bet certainly piqued our interest.
It’s not as high as some other Microgaming slots like the Fish Party mobile game, for example, but it also has a lot more to offer in bonus features.
Play on the biggest selection of games at a one of a kind mobile casino site.
There are a total of 5 bonuses, two of which get triggered completely randomly. If nothing else, this should certainly be entertaining.
What if I don’t want to wait till November 2017?
Trust us, we don’t know when NetEnt will get to release their version, but it won’t be this year.
So if you’re a NetEnt slot fan, we recommend you check out the upcoming release of their Blood Suckers game instead.
However, Microgaming fans have plenty to keep them entertained them till November; for one the Halloween machine we mentioned above.
But, if you’re a fan of musicals rather than horror, Immortal Romance slot mixes a little bit of both, whilst Six Acrobats is one of their better recent releases.
You can play all of these at Guts mobile casino where you get an exclusive 20 free spins and 200% up to £€$200 bonus on your very first deposit.
