The big announcement from Microgaming a few weeks ago was the fact that the Jurassic World slot would finally hit out screens in the Summer of 2017.
But really, that was kind of anti-climatic news, seeing as they promised us that game last year, and so far has been delayed due to totally unknown reasons.
That’s the nice bit about being one of the biggest slot online casino providers around – you can choose to release game if and when you want.
So many amongst you would probably have missed the fact that there was another piece of news that made, if not waves, certainly ripples in the online slots news network.
Namely the upcoming Phantom of the Opera slot coming out in the Autumn of 2017.
What we know about the Phantom of the Opera slot
Not an awful lot in fact. Namely because it’s still very early days, and Microgaming studios have only promised us that we’ll get it later on in the year.
Not For UK Players, but don’t worry, we have more bonuses below.
Which, if the Jurassic World slot is anything to go by, could be as far as 2018. (Who? Us? Resentful? Whaaat…!)
But ok, let’s say it’s coming in 2017. There’s still a few key points about it that makes this interesting news.
Based on the 2004 movie
What did you expect? It’s not like the people over at Microgaming Games are going to head to London and start taking snapshots of the actors and songs for this Phantom of the Opera video slot.
Especially when there’s a perfectly good movie by the same name staring big budget stars like Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum and Minnie Driver just laying around to be used.
Don’t worry, all the same great songs will feature
Let’s be honest, the reason the Phantom of the Opera musical has been played to over 140 million people in 35 countries in 166 cities around the world is because of the music.
The stage actors come and go, the sets have been replaced and modernised since it came out in 1986, but the music by Andrew Lloyd Webber remains eternal.
Fans of the film or the play will enjoy singing along to iconic operatic tunes like “The Phantom of the Opera”, “The Music of the Night” and “All I Ask of You”.
You’ll find the main character and plenty of original film footage
The reason that Microgaming says they’ve taken on this Phantom of the Opera slot machine is because, according to them, this is a ‘new genre’ of game for them.

I.e. A musical.
David Reynolds, Games Publisher at Microgaming, explains: “The Phantom of the Opera has had unequivocal success, played to over 140 million people worldwide! It’s exciting to be working with a musical, a new genre of branded content for Microgaming, extending and broadening our portfolio of games.”
We are argue that this is nothing new for Microgaming. They’ve created plenty of movie slots, including the likes of the Bridesmaids game and The Dark Knight Rises slot.
So, other than a particular focus on the music, you know what to expect: each of the main characters will get a high paying symbol, with a little movie animation on a win.
Then you’ll get big bonus games, each with their own little movie clip to accompany the special feature.
The Phantom of the Opera’s feature packed free spin rounds
And that’s not us guessing, that’s straight out of the horses mouth.
“Due out in Q3, this game will be a true celebration of the world’s biggest opera, balancing a healthy mix of base game features with a feature-packed free spins round.” Finished David Reynolds
Now, this could be a man put on the spot and just saying something generic.
But we hope he means it. We love mobile slots that have a good mix of base game features and fun free spins.
That said… it kinda sounds like something generic someone would say when they’re not sure what will show up? Right?
To be fair, currently this “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera slot” is still mostly just a concept, so we can’t be too hard on poor David.
Can’t be easy having to come up with something new to say about every new mobile phone slot that shows up month to month.

Are we excited for this Phantom of the Opera game?
We are not big musical people here at LuckyMobileSlots.com. We’ve gone to see the Theatre piece, because if you’ve ever spent any time in London, you eventually end up getting tickets if only to see what the fuss is all about.
There’s not many musicals that have been around playing in the same theatre since 1986.
But, we’re probably a better target audience for the likes of the Aliens slot or the Justice League game.
So it’s hard for us to get super excited.
The stage play is successful… but the movie?
The movie grossed over $154 million worldwide. That’s no small number, but hardly the $6 billion made by the stage play.
- Thunderstruck II
- Mega Moolah
- Immortal Romance
- Jungle Jim
- Game of Thrones
- Isis
And, well… That movie came out over a decade ago.
Only the biggest fans of the musical will remember it. Hell, even Gerald Butler fans who are use to seeing him in the like of 300 or Olympus has fallen, will have to double check the IMDB page that it’s really a Gerald Butler film.
Will there be a big enough audience to draw people out?
Don’t underestimate this Phantom
Granted, rotten tomatoes critics seriously slated the movie, calling it boring, and lacking in both romance and danger.
However, that same rotten tomatoes Phantom page was given an 84% like by audiences.
There’s a reason this musical has being going on for 31 years – it’s full of spectacle, love and music that will stay in your inner ear for days.
The stage musical is one of the most successful pieces of entertainment of all time and we’d bet that there’s plenty of fans looking forward to hearing the tunes again, without having to shell out for a theatre ticket.
And what the hell. Gerald Butler looks good, with or without a mask, in any decade.

We have faith in Microgaming slots
Granted, they bring out a lot of duds over the year, but even so-so games like the Secret Romance slot is still worth a few spins.
And when it comes to big blockbuster slots, they know how to make a splash; just look at the likes of the Game of Thrones machine, or the likes of Hitman or Tomb Raider games; arguably better slots than they ever were movies.
When given a big brand, this is one software that knows how to make big games.
Don’t believe us? You can try all the slots we’ve just mentioned above at Leo Vegas casino, who give you a huge welcome bonus of £1,500 / €$1,000 in bonus to get you started.
