Last week we announced that NetEnt will be releasing their new version of Starburst in their Berryburst slot machine.

However, this week they’ve gone ahead and said that we will now also be getting another slot, called the Berryburst MAX slot on the same day.

Are these two different games? No… Not exactly. Think of them as two slightly different machines but with identical themes.

What is the MAX slot game product line?

This is a brand new idea launched by NetEnt this week and it’s a fairly simple one:

1. Create a slot game
2. Create the same video slot but with bigger wins and add ‘Max’ to the title

That’s basically it. That’s the entire idea. It’s… crazy simple.

But is it simple in a ‘this is idiotic’ kinda way or is it simple in a ‘that’s genius, why hasn’t anyone else thought of that before’ kinda way?

Look, until we get to play both Berryburst slot versions we can’t say for sure as to how it’s going to turn out.

But to us, this feels like a gimmick. Like how when Microgaming decided to create the Game of Thrones 243 ways to win slot and the Game of Thrones 15 payline game.

Two games, slight differences, and one more volatile than the other, but nothing came from this Microgaming experiment.

So that’s our initial thoughts about the whole ‘slot max’ concept. But maybe we are wrong. Maybe the two Berryburst slots will come out and it will be fantastic to get two slightly different versions of the same game.

Because all the features will be the same by the way. This is essentially the same slot machine, but with slightly different maths.

So let’s break down the similarities and the differences, shall we?

What’s is the same between the two:

So basically, you could open up one or the other by mistake and now realise, short of looking at the logo.

What the difference between the two:

• Berryburst Max will have bigger payouts in its paytable from 10 symbol clusters upward.
• You can win a maximum of 400,000 in cash in the Max version VS 200,000 in the normal version
• The normal version has a hit rate of 20.2% whilst the Max version only has a 14.6%
• Berryburst has a higher RTP of 96.56% vs Berryburst Max which has an RTP of 96.23%

What does this all mean? Well, it’s basically what we’ve been saying all along: you win more often in one, but you win more overall in the other.

So which of the Berryburst slot game should I play?

But with Max, you know that without those wilds getting cluster of 10 symbols or more is going to be difficult.
