Genesis are an up and coming game studio who, every once in a while, come out with some brilliant slot games – but not all meet our high standards.

As such, when we were contacted with details on this Jason Quest slot, we were… cautiously optimistic.

On one hand, their latest Clash of Queens game was brilliant. On the other, the last time Genesis took on mythology with their Ragnarok slot, it left us feeling a little cold.

So will this turn into a Greek tragedy or comedy?

What we know about the Jason’s Quest slot

Plenty in fact. Genesis have been whispering (loudly) about the production of this new slot machine since way back in February.

They have since released 3 videos, and plenty of screen shots, to allow us to make an educated guess. Or, at least, a random opinion based on nothing. But hey, that’s what we do best.

It’s certainly pretty isn’t it? But that’s the wonderful thing about Genesis slots, they usually are. Say what you will, but you can’t fault their graphics and sounds.

Jason’s Quest, in case you’ve missed the year in school when they taught classic tales, is loosely based around the story of Jason and The Argonauts, searching for the mythical gold fleece.

The characters you see on screen are none other than Jason, Hercules and Medea, and all the creatures that they meet on their quest to riches, including a hungry cyclops, a multi-headed Hydra and the near invincible skeletal army.

Unlock levels as you play for greater wins

This is not a terribly new concept, but it is one you don’t often see in Android and iPhone slots. Mostly because slots are meant to be… simple. You know ‘spin and win’.

But the idea that you have to devote time and effort to get bonus features is a tricky business.

On one hand, it can work really well, with games like Microgaming’s Thunderstruck II leading the way in how to balance the slots so it’s entertaining from the very beginning – not just at the end.

That said, we’re not sure that’s what’s going to happen here.

History repeating itself?

Our suspicions that we’d seen this before were first aroused when we saw several facts about this Jason Quest mobile slot.

Wait, wait, wait, don’t go just yet…

Ok, we know we weren’t the biggest fans of the Ragnarok mobile slot, but we didn’t hate it either.

Our main problem with it is that it only really started to get interesting once you’ve unlocked all 3 levels. Before that it’s a lot of work, for very little rewards.

However, once you break through that 3rd level (it took us about 2 hours in Ragnarok), it turned into an awesome mobile slot. And we mean really good fun, with bigger multipliers, and free spins with great features.

The only problem is getting there – you need a little patience.

The good news, it won’t cost you as much as you think

Because Genesis are aware that all the fun really starts when you go up levels, they will make sure that this Jason’s Quest slot won’t eat up all your budget in one go.

At least, if they follow the same pattern as the Ragnarok machine, which isn’t for sure. We are simply guessing.

They could change the maths and how it plays, for Jason’s Quest to give you bigger wins before you hit level 3.

That could be fun.

Still, either way, moving up levels should be fairly easy, and the bonus triggers often enough that it keeps things lively.

Are we excited about Genesis’ Jason’s Quest slot?

We’re not going to lie. We were a little more excited when we thought this was an original new slot machine.

Once we discovered it wasn’t, and that it was a video slot we only rated so-so, it definitely killed some of the shine in our eyes.
