Update 16/10/2014: Read our South Park Reel Chaos slot review here before you play.
We will be the first to admit that when NetEntertainment told us they were going to release the original South Park slot game, we were, frankly, not the most enthusiastic.
Boy were we wrong. Our worries that this slot machine had far too many bonus features got swapped by the pure joy of the chaos on the reels and we gave the original 5 stars.
Whether you agree or disagree with us, you can’t deny that the South Park game has created an impressive following. Otherwise we wouldn’t be seeing version 2 of it come out only one year after the original release.
We don’t have a huge amount of information on the Reel Chaos slot. It’s not being released until October, so NetEnt are only ‘teasing’ the information, giving us a small trailer to look at.
So let’s look at it and see if we can pass judgement anyway.
Video Trailer South Park Reel Chaos Slot
The theme
The main focus in South Park: Reel Chaos video slot seems to be on the character of Butters as super villain Professor Chaos. All the characters, in fact, seem to be cloaked in disguises on a dim twilight night as they fight each other across the five reels in one way or another.
Well, they do say the sequel is always darker right?
It makes sense to change the characters so much. After all, the first was all from the original series, with reference mostly to season 1. Bright, rude and familiar.
This one goes all the way to season 6 with several references to later episodes. It will make it easier for players to be able to recognise one game VS. the other and gives it a fresh and different twist.
The slot game features:
There is really only very little we can comment on. What is shown on the video trailer is probably only a tiny little part of what will actually make it into the online and mobile slot.
That said, we can tell you that:
- Cartman appears to create a row of extended wilds. How big will these get? Could we get two or three reels full of wilds like the beefcake feature in the original game? Or is it just one little reel of nothingness.
- You seem to be able to get a random multiplier spinner with 3x, 4x and 5x on show. We say random because the reels in the background are clearly still spinning, so it’s waiting for the reels to stop to give you a multiplier on a win. A 5x multiplier could be very nice indeed… but we suspect this will not be a hard hitting feature unless you are very, very, very lucky. More of a filler to your entertainment wallet.
- Much like the original, you also have characters who provide random wilds on screen. These really helped in the original game to balance out your budget, so again, entertainment more than big hits.
- There appears to be some kind of… fight scene mini game? With different characters? Against Bubbles? On different backgrounds and setting? This is either a mini game or a free spin feature, but we can’t say for sure.
This South Park video is only meant to be a teaser, so we suppose that three months in advance, they don’t want to give up too much.
Needless to say, it’s too little information to be able to say whether it will be any good. We can’t even tell you if you get free spins, but in the original, the free spins wasn’t even the main attraction.
So perhaps that battle feature will be the slot feature to end all features?
We know from the original South Park game that they can certainly bring the fun and chaos of the original TV series to our slot playing screens. Whether lightning will strike twice on the same spot remains to be seen.
What about the South Park Reels Chaos mobile slot?
Notice how we didn’t mention anything about the mobile slot? Basically we have no idea.
Usually we would say “Yes! Of course! Absolutely! NetEnt bring out all their games on mobile” – except they haven’t. Not for the last few months where their latest releases have been online only.
We suspect it will be. The Aliens slot machine, which was the last big branded game, was released on all platforms at the same time. The original South Park slot was too.
So it would be insane not to release this one across all mobile and tablet platforms. Insane because we desperately want it to be true.
We can only assume that their slack in their latest mobile releases have been because they are bringing us the most amazing, incredible, chaotic, insane, superb, funny, charming, entertaining mobile slot. Ever.
No pressure.
